MAYDAY 5

“This upcoming weekend will mark the 5th Anniversary of the MayDay Festival at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre. The Mayday Music Festival is an annual outdoor music festival held Memorial Day Weekend at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre, PA, which benefits the men and women of the United States Armed Forces. Since it’s inception in 2008, Sector One has chosen the organization – Soldiers’ Angels – as the recipient for all profits from the festival and it’s supporting endeavors. Over the past 4 years, they have raised over $10,000 which has gained us support from the City of Wilkes-Barre. This festival has grown from a mere thought into a full-fledged festival in a matter of a few years. It not only has brought together the artists and musicians, but has also brought together the entire community.

This year’s MayDay music festival will be a two day event to be held on Saturday, May 26th and Sunday, May 27th. This is a free, all ages, family friendly event, featuring 6 stages of music throughout the city’s park.  It is organized and operated by Sector One Entertainment, LLC, and is supported by various other crews, individual artists, family, and friends.

The festival features music from over 80 performers, along with art from local artists and sculptors, and always welcomes community groups and organizations to become involved. Not only will the show host a live stage, but it will feature hip hop, dubstep, drum and bass, house/electro stages throughout the park. The festival was able to secure national acts such as Talking Heads tribute band Start Making Sense, Mike Dougherty Band, XVSK and The Indobox. Other featured acts include Suze, Ol’ Cabbage, Rukus, Corey B, Blade and Science, Conscious Pilot, Big Basha and Against the Grain. (For a full listing of artists and set times please visit the official MayDay Website listed below)

The festival has helped nurture local talent as well as provide them with a large audience exposure. When asked about the local music scene, Leesa Colón (Secretary & Promotions, Sector One Entertainment, LLC) expressed:

“The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area is filled with so many amazing musicians, and we at Sector One Entertainment believe that each and every one of those musicians should be given a chance to be showcased. The MayDay Music Festival is about not only showcasing that talent, but also about gathering a community together for a great cause.”

This year the company hopes to raise even more money for Soldier’s Angels as well as give back to the local community. Leesa remarks:

“Sector One Entertainment believes in enrichment through music, art, and culture, and we are thrilled that we are able to present our values to our community through this festival, as well as other events. Sector One is heavily involved in not only entertainment promotion, but also in charity work and building a sense of community.”

“All proceeds from the MayDay music festival go to benefit our Armed Forces, and we hope that this year’s festival brings our community together to benefit those brave men and women even more so than it has in the past.”

BRIGHT WOOLS, LISLE, GO NORTH AND SOUTH
“A rush of colored legs is likely to be encountered anywhere this year. These wool hose are being worn for skiing with the new short ski skirts, for outdoor skating, and for all casual wear with country tweeds. Youngsters may substitute them for the knee length hose they loved but many boys hated. Older women who blushed at the thought of naked knees are pouncing on them because they are gay and practical. The vivid lisle hose with matching gloves are the giddiest note at southern resorts, day and night.”
